Sun-stable and nourishing

It's really important to nourish your skin with a diverse range of fatty acids especially the ones that form the building blocks of ceramides. Your epidermis is often compared to a wall and the bricks in that wall are skin cells. Ceramides make up 50% of the mortar in that wall, sticking the skin cells together and keeping moisture locked in and pathogens out.

Some fatty acids are sun-stable (saturated fats) while others will oxidise in sunlight and cause free radical damage (polyunsaturated fats). Free radical damage contributes to premature ageing and can even lead to cancer.

At Lyonsleaf we use a lot of organic tropical oils which have evolved a myriad of antioxidants to combat the damaging UV rays in the tropics. The products rich in tropical oils are the ones we recommend using on skin exposed to sunlight. Please be aware these products are not sunscreens and should never be used in their place.
