Collection: Natural Exfoliant

Exfoliation is the simple process of removing dead, dry skin cells to reveal the healthy new skin beneath the surface. It stimulates circulation, unclogs pores, smoothes skin texture and improves the ability of the skin to absorb moisture. Because it stimulates cell regeneration and collagen production, regular exfoliation can even result in more youthful looking skin. The skin's natural exfoliation process slows as the skin ages so it is important to help it along. However, exfoliation can be damaging, care must be taken.

We recommend the oIl cleansing method. This does not involve using any harsh gritty products that can damage skin. Instead by gently wiping with a flannel or muslin once or twice every day, you will be gently and constantly exfoliating. We feel this is much safer than doing a harsh exfoliation once or twice a week.

Below is our advice about exfoliating different skin types. You can also keyword search customer reviews for first hand tips. Samples are also available as an option on most products. [read more]

Exfoliating dry skin

If you have dry skin it is tempting to layer on more and more moisturiser. If you have not exfoliated you are just trying to rehydrate the layer of dead skin cells. Increasing your exfoliation will not only reveal the new healthy skin beneath but also allow your moisturiser to penetrate that new healthy skin keeping it healthier and hydrated for longer.

Exfoliation for blemished skin, acne and blackheads

If your skin is prone to blemishes, acne or blackheads it is important to ensure your pores do not become blocked. Blocked pores trap dirt and debris which builds up as your skin produces sebum. If these build ups are not removed a pimple or blackhead will form. Removing the dirt and dead skin is important, but drying the skin out completely can cause it's sebum producing glands to go into overdrive in an effort to overcompensate. To avoid this use products with natural non-comedogenic oils (non pore blocking) which moisturise the skin whilst exfoliating. You are then replacing to dirty sebum with fresh clean natural oils that your skin will accept. Using a product with sebum balancing essential oils can also help your skin find a healthy balance of it's natural oil production.

Acne scar healing

If your skin is prone to acne and blemishes you may get scarring. Exfoliation can help by encouraging cell regeneration and removing surface damaged skin.
