Calendula has been used for thousands of years in skincare and traditional medicine. In the past herbalists and wise women would have made a calendula oil, salve, tea or poultice to calm any sort on inflamed skin. Nowadays many calendula creams are available as over-the-counter products.

But if the calendula cream has water, juice or hydrosol as an ingredient it will inevitably have a preservative to prevent bugs from growing in the water element of the cream and an emulsifier to stabilise the mixture of oil and water.

Our calendula salves (like all our products) are water-free and therefore free from those preservatives that can cause irritation for some people with sensitive skin and emulsifiers which can weaken the skin barrier. At Lyonsleaf we make Calendula salves.
