Creams for skin affected by genital herpes
Genital herpes is a surprisingly common complaint. It is caused by a version of the herpes virus similar to that which causes cold sores and chickenpox. If you suspect you have it you must go to your GP who can give you topical treatment and anti-viral tablets. Genital herpes is sore, itchy and uncomfortable. Passing urine over the affected area causes a burning sensation. For this reason a soothing a barrier cream can be very helpful alongside prescription medicine. (Always do a patch test.)

Barrier creams suitable for skin affected by genital herpes
Zinc and Calendula Cream. (yellow label) This product is very water repellent because of the zinc oxide is cooling and is suitable for itchy skin (it's what they put in calamine lotion). This is the product we recommend it for skin affected by genital herpes as it is the most water repellent product we have. It is unfragranced so is suitable for infants and sensitive types. It is a thick opaque waxy ointment and will show white on the skin and may mark underwear.
Calendula and Marshmallow Balm. (purple label) This has the same amount of soothing calendula as the above product and is suitable for skin affected by genital herpes. Even though it lacks the zinc oxide it still makes a great barrier cream because it is a waxy balm. It may be more convenient because it is not opaque like the Zinc and Calendula Cream and will; not mark underwear. It has marshmallow root extract which is also suitable for itchy skin. It's unfragranced so suitable for infants.
It may be hard to decide which product(s) are suitable for you, so we do sell samples as an option on the product pages.
